2018 Mercedes-Benz GLA Class
The C-Class used to be the smallest Mercedes model here in America, which if we're quite honest wasn't actually all that small at all really. In many other markets around the world the German automaker offers the A-Class that hasn’t made it over here as yet, but since the 2015 model year we have had the GLA Class. The 2018 Mercedes-Benz GLA Class is a revised version of the luxury compact crossover, so let's take a closer look at what it has to offer.
Changes for 2018
This year sees a fairly mild refreshing of the GLA Class, with cosmetic changes to the front fascia and inside the cabins there are a number of new safety and convenience features. The front-end of the Mercedes now has optional LED headlights and LED taillights are now standard. There are some small aerodynamic tweaks as well at the front, the rear, and underneath that lend a smoother shape to the GLA overall. The hot GLA45 version gets aggressive new air intakes and a new front air dam, and LED headlights are now standard.
The 2018 GLA Class is definitely a more rounded and less angular design than perhaps it was at launch, so it's up to the individual buyer whether that's an improvement they welcome. There's a strong look of the CLA the crossover is based upon, which is only to be expected, but the Mercedes can claim to offer something a little different in the luxury compact crossover segment. If a crossover is supposed to sit somewhere between a sedan or coupe and an SUV, the 2018 Mercedes-Benz GLA Class has nailed it.
Trims and engines
Like the vehicle itself, the 2018 GLA lineup is pretty compact as there are just three models and two of them are basically the same trim with different drivetrains. The first model in the 2018 GLA family is therefore the GLA 250, and the second is the GLA 250 4Matic that's effectively the same thing but with the excellent Mercedes-Benz all-wheel drive system. The engine in these two is a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four, which develops a pretty useful 208 horsepower and 258 lb.-ft. of torque that's sent to the front or all four wheels through a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. The considerably more powerful AMG GLA 45 is therefore the pinnacle of the GLA lineup at the moment. Under the hood of this one is a suitably potent handcrafted 2.0-liter inline-four turbo with direct injection, which then sends 375 horsepower and 350 lb.-ft. of torque to the 4Matic all-wheel drive system through an AMG Speedshift version of the DCT transmission.
Features and equipment
Spoiler alert! There are less expensive luxury compact crossovers out there you can buy, but not many offer the extensive list of standard and available features and equipment found with the 2018 Mercedes-Benz GLA Class. The GLA 250 comes standard with a full complement of power features that even include a power tailgate and power front seats. It also has standard keyless ignition, 18-inch alloy wheels, Bluetooth audio streaming, synthetic leather upholstery and plenty more besides.
The 2018 GLA is available right now from Silver Star A.G. Ltd, so get in touch to be at the front of the line for more information and a test drive in the refreshed version of this sensational luxury compact crossover.
